The Project

The Boeing India Engineering & Technology Centre (BIETC) stands as a beacon of technological prowess within Boeing's global innovation network. Situated in Bangalore, India, this cutting-edge facility is committed to pushing the boundaries of aerospace and aviation through excellence, collaboration, and the nurturing of local talent. With a strategic focus on engineering, software development, and research, BIETC plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of aerospace solutions.

The Need

The Innovation Campus required large-sized glass panels for glazing, with some exceeding 4 1/2 meters in length. The architect chose the Guardian HP Neutral 50 glass, known for its extreme neutrality in aesthetics and a remarkably high solarium coefficient value. This selection addresses the challenge of incorporating glass panels of such size, ensuring both visual appeal and efficient solar performance.

A significant aspect of this project involved the utilization of laminated glasses to enhance safety and acoustic insulation. The Guardian HP Neutral 50 glass, along with its neutral plus 50 variant, was deemed suitable for meeting these specific requirements. This choice aligns with the architect's emphasis on both functionality and design, making it a comprehensive solution for the challenges posed by the project's glass processing needs.

The Challenges:

One of the significant challenges in this project was the requirement for extremely stringent optical distortion norms. The consultant, Vistara India, established these extreme tolerances as a core criterion for the selection of a glass fabricator. FG, utilizing advanced heat treatment and peak processing machinery, ensured that not only were the architect and consultant requirements met, but they were exceeded by more than 40%. This achievement was made possible through the implementation of special edge work, resulting in advanced overheating times during tempering.

The top and bottom force turbo convection heating system also played a crucial role in evenly distributing heat across the glass surface, even with high-performance coatings, ensuring absolute optical precision. Furthermore, our fully automated insulated and laminated glass assemblies enabled us to deliver the required glass quality within extremely stringent lead times.

FG Glass Solutions & Advantages:

FG Glass stepped up to the challenge by importing the required glass from Guardian UAE and processing it into the specific application – Guardian HP Neutral Plus 50 Climacool pro-1. The high-performance nature of the glass posed a unique challenge in terms of processing, as the coating's sensitivity to heat required careful handling during the strengthening process.

FG Glass, with its longstanding partnership with Guardian Glass, invested in a state-of-the-art top & bottom convection furnace from Uniglass – the only one of its kind in India. This powerful furnace enabled the processing of high-end glass like HP Neutral Plus 50 with precision and efficiency. The capabilities of this machine allowed FG Glass to achieve the fastest tempering line across the country.
